Some marketing advice

Hello PMs, PMMS, and marketing people.

I want to share some marketing advice. When you have a solid brand...say Oakley or SanDisk, do not trash it by adding Ducati or Ferrari or branding non-sense like that. I am not sure which bone-head at these companies and many more decided to do this but it was a bad idea. Just because those bikes or cars are cool, doesn't translate to better sales or more brand appeal. Even if it did improve sales, at what cost to your overall brand? I am an avid Oakley fan, in the last 14 years, I have only purchased Oakley glasses and never plan on switching. But come on, adding those brands is just tacky. Let the motor brands stay in the automotive industry. Build strong brands based on your own merits and align with partners that make sense.

A blog post: Updates to my site

I have totally fixed my blog integration with my website and it is functioning well. I have also included a new widget on my home page of www.adamkaufman.net. This new widget shows review of apps I try for ipad and iphone. It is pretty simple and fits well into the color scheme of my site. All in all it is looking good and I am once again getting into rethinking my website. I now want to change how the past updates are laid out. Going in and changing code each time I do something is a annoying so this will be my next challenge...how do I change this???

Test

This is a test blog posting. After switching from blogger FTP services to their blogspot service I have to see if I can post remotely and that updates will be sent to my Twitter account. Let's hope it works.

Reconsideration

After using motoblur, sense, and base android I have concluded apple is the way to go. While they do things that annoy me as a consumer I guess doesn't really matter in the end since I will always buy their products, mobile products, and totally love them. Let's see what happens when win7 mobile comes I'm. I'm looking forward to it.

What TV means

I just finished another season of a TV show I used to watch. Every time I conclude another show, it makes me think back on so many things. Not just about ideas and stories that the show tries to convey, but the ideas and stories that I experienced during the time I watched the show. If you think about it, we watch TV shows (not garbage like reality TV or games shows) that span years of our lives. I can remember moments in time from when I watched certain episodes, started watching new series or concluded another. I can remember where I was and what I was thinking at those times. Being able to look back and see how my ideologies have changed and hopefully evolved truly defines what it means to be human. The emotional strings that pull at our hearts by taking part in a story can change us in ways sometimes not always apparent at that time. I can see those changes as I reflect and I am an in awe. From being a teenager, to early twenties, and now approaching my thirties, I hope that I can continue such introspection for years to come. I hope that I will always be able to be self aware enough to take advantage of those moments that shape and define me for the better. The experiences that have effected me over the last year or so are things that I would never trade. They have made me a better man, have gave me new goals, new things to strive for, new ideas to think, and new reason to forge ahead.

When all is said and done TV shows, although trivial at times, help that exploration for our own personal definition. They catalogue the moments of our lives for some of us. They give me the ability to remember back on things that sometimes I forget about. They help shed a tear, provide a laugh, and tap into emotions that sometimes I need to share and experience.

Thank you for all the things I have been given the opportunity to understand.

Apple Product Comments

So I like the Ipad, but it seems really heavy to me. I will for sure buy one when 3G is out, but after they fix some issues...like Wifi. But first impressions are good. One negative for me is that fact that the apps cost so much. Half the reason why I want one is because of the apps. And if things like twitter, facebook or other things im on all days cost most then the TCO is really more then the $829 price tag. We will see what happens and I am sure I will buy it, but the app pricing strategy is in question and a lot of people are making comments about it.

Lastly, Iphone OS 4. WOW that is lame, and multitasking doesn't work on my 3G? I do not want a 3GS because its not really different, I want the next gen. When will that be out. So what 4 really = to me is failure. Nothing that I can use and other things I don't want...iad??? Why is the UI still ugly. It is three years old, time to compete with Andriod, webOS, and Win7...they look so much nicer. Also, when can I get subtle notifications like webOS or Andriod? Disrupting my work flow when in use is annoying...fix that!!!

If these things don't get better and new cool Andriod and Win7 devices come out that look better then the iPhone, then I might go with them. That in turn would make me not want to buy an iPad in favor of the tablet with Andriod coming out at some point. This all goes hand and hand and they are not making great consumer decisions here.

Updated Website with Twitter & Yelp

I have been using these two services for a while now and I have had twitter running on site for a couple months. Now, I have added Yelp and redid the lay so that they looked like they belonged side by side. Adding these services will cause me to use these both sites more in the coming months. Stay tunned....
